Manus Patten, PI
Manus arrived to Georgetown in January 2011 and founded the lab soon after. His main interests are genetic conflicts and the levels of selection. Manus teaches courses in evolution, ecology, and genetics. Google Scholar link.

Martijn Schenkel, post-doc
Martijn joined the Patten lab in May 2022 to work on the paradox of the organism: why do organisms persist despite the opportunity for selfish genes and cells to break them down from within? He obtained his PhD in May 2021 from the University of Groningen on the evolutionary genetics and dynamics of transitions in sex determination. His interests include the evolution of reproduction, evolutionary conflict, and the major transitions. Google Scholar link.

Naomi Greenberg, undergrad
Naomi joined the lab her sophomore year and has been working on the evolution of biased X chromosome inactivation. Outside of research, she leads The Hoya’s Science section, TAs in the bio department, and is a long-distance runner and member of the Georgetown Running Club. After graduating, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in genetics.
